First Post for Early Years

Most kids know how to use a computer more proficiently than their parents. But how do you channel this for good and not evil? This blog is intended to focus on some of the things I've stumbled on in my few years of internet experience that have been helpful for my family.

One of the single most comprehensive educational websites for the early (preschool and below) ages has to be sesamestreet.org. Yet most parents I've talked to had no idea that Sesame Street had a website.

Looking for short clips to entertain your younglings? Check out http://www.sesamestreet.org/videos

How about some games to practice early numeracy or literacy skills? Try http://www.sesamestreet.org/games

They cover a broad range of topics, shape/color/letter/number recognition, problem solving, categorizing, patterns, it's extremely an extremely comprehensive selection from a company that has spent many, many years in the industry.

Warning about the toddler "Peek-a-boo" game... it's hard on your keyboard.

You can browse by character, subject or theme (food, animals, etc.). Most of the games will require some adult help if you are too young to manipulate a mouse, but some do operate with some simple keyboard interaction (see above warning re: Peekaboo). There is enough variety in the number of games available to keep the adult brain from dribbling out your ears.
